I’ve seen people trying to push this. For those who don’t know, FAANG is a group of stocks (Facebook, Apple, Amazon, Netflix, and Google) that performed particularly well in the 2010s. So investors grouped them into an acronym.

Now that Facebook is called Meta, people are trying to coin MAANG…

…except nobody called it FAANA when Google changed to Alphabet in 2015. Sure, the stock symbols remained GOOG and GOOGL, but Meta remained FB. If you wanted to be correct, it would be MAANA or FAANG, depending on whether you’re referencing the company names or stock symbols.

But MAANG breaks the rules, and the first rule in writing is it doesn’t matter what rules you create so long as you stick to your own rules.

Like time travel movies – it doesn’t exist, so you can make up whatever rules you want. As long as you stick to the rules, it remains believable that two people traveled through time in a phone booth or DeLorean.

But when you break your own rules, it just drives people crazy. Although Alphabet’s logo isn’t as cute and colorful I guess.

Perhaps I’m just being pedantic about something that doesn’t matter. But attention to detail matters, which is why The Motley Fool satisfies my brain the most with MANAMANA (I’d also accept MMAANNAA, MAMANANA, or MMAAAANN).

This takes into account that Microsoft, Adobe, and Nvidia are also solid tech investments. And it follows the rules.
